This article demonstrates strategies to enhance the success of removable partial dentures, suggesting improved patient outcomes.
Although the prevalence of complete edentulism in the UK has declined, demand for prosthetic rehabilitation among partially dentate patients continues to rise. Removable partial dentures remain a widely used, cost-effective treatment modality; however, their provision presents challenges in achieving optimal function, aesthetics and patient satisfaction. This article outlines practical strategies to assist clinicians in avoiding common complications. Key areas addressed include pre-prosthetic patient and oral preparation, impression techniques, bite registration and effective communication with dental technicians. A structured approach to these stages can minimize complications, reduce review appointments and enhance predictability and patient-centred outcomes in removable prosthodontics. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Adopting a structured approach with removable partial dentures can reduce complications and enhance patient outcomes.
