Desk-based assessment and appraisal reveal mill complex remains in Glossop, suggesting further study is needed.
ARCUS were commissioned to undertake a desk-based assessment and rapid buildings appraisal of land and structures at the former Wren Nest Mill complex, Glossop. The survey identified that although archaeological deposits of the medieval period and earlier are unlikely to be present on the site, both standing and buried remains of the mill complex are present, and have the potential to provide further information about the development and use of the site, including nineteenth-century domestic activity of the mill workforce. Suggestions for further recording work, including intrusive ground investigations have been made.
