Mixed method analysis reveals how tourist perceptions impact emotions and behaviors in national parks, suggesting improvements for management.
In this study, a mixed technique of qualitative and quantitative is used to analyze online reviews of Chinese national parks and their candidate areas. The qualitative research obtains seven dimensions of tourist perceptions, but tourists lack perceptions about environmental education and environmental activities. Natural/cultural resources and tourist experience are the main dimensions that evoke positive perceptions among tourists. Tourist perceptions of tourism facility, tourism service, and tourism activity are mixed. Tourism price and development and management are the main dimensions that aroused negative perceptions. The quantitative research indicates that tourist perceptions have a significant effect on tourist emotions, tourist satisfaction, and behavioral intentions. Positive emotion has a significant positive effect on tourist satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Compared with tourist dissatisfaction, tourist satisfaction increases the probability of tourist behavioral intentions. The conclusions are of great significance for the subsequent construction and development of national parks.
