This research examines how social media and AI tools affect academic performance among MCA students, suggesting best practices for effective use.
The increasing integration of social media and artificial intelligence (AI) into educational environments has influenced the academic practices of learners, MCA students. Platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, and Telegram are used for academic communication and resource sharing, while AI-based tools including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Canva AI, Grammarly, Napkin AI, and Perplexity provide explanations, coding assistance, and learning support. This research examines how the usage of social media platforms and AI-based tools influences the academic outcomes of MCA students. Data collected from 100 students indicate varied outcomes: structured and academically oriented usage facilitates better understanding, improved access to learning materials, and enhanced academic efficiency, whereas excessive or entertainment-driven engagement results in diminished concentration and reduced academic performance. The findings demonstrate that the impact of digital tools depends on students’ ability to maintain patterns of use. The study concludes that while social media and AI have potential to support learning, their academic value depends on responsible and disciplined utilisation.
