Empirical evidence reveals the deplorable state of some of the flood prone areas in Nigeria, as a result of the menace of the environmental problem of flooding. This paper is based on the impacts of flood on our environment. This is with a view to proposing efficient and effective preventive, control and management measures that will tend to proffer solution. Causes of this problem have been traced and among others, human activities in terms of developmental involvements adjudged to be very important factors in accelerating the rate of this disaster. Thousands of lives from various parts of the country affected have been lost and property worth billions of naira destroyed. Floodplain management, among others if effectively implored will go a long way to proffer solution to ameliorate the situation.
