Examines mechanical and chemical properties of sodium borate glasses with transition metal oxides, suggesting material enhancement through specific additives.
The influence of various additives of transition metal ions (V, Co, Ni) with different concentrations incorporated into sodium borate glass was studied. The Infrared absorption spectra of the prepared glasses were studied to identify the change in their structural building units before and after irradiation. The chemical and mechanical properties can also be predicted by identifying density, molar volume, and microhardness. Also, the effect of different additives or γ rays on the chemical resistance of the studied glasses to the HCl solution was considered. Generally, for the obtained results, it was found that gamma-irradiation causes a slight change in IR bands. Also, gamma-irradiation increases both density and microhardness. it was found that changes depend strongly on both the type and amount of transition metal oxides added. The results show that glass containing cobalt oxide exhibits the best mechanical properties.
