This study assesses the water quality of Nworie River in Owerri, Imo State using Water Quality Index (WQI). The physico-chemical parameters investigated in the study were Temperature, pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Turbidity, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total dissolved solids (TDS). Water samples were collected from three locations along the river channel. The sample collection was done in the dry season and the wet season. The result of the physico-chemical parameters revealed the acidic nature of the river water in both seasons. Water Quality Index was applied on the results of the physico-chemical parameters. The average water quality index varied from 300 to 2368 which indicates that the river water is unfit in both seasons. It is therefore recommended that the river water should undergo proper treatment before consumption.
