Analyzes efficiency in poultry businesses, suggesting ways to improve productivity.
Purpose: This study aims to derive improvement plans for continued advancement by deriving the ways for efficiency improvement using DEA analysis and seeking plans for efficient productivity of systematized poultry businesses using the Malmquist productivity index in consideration of the problems faced by them. Research design, data, and methodology: For systematized poultry businesses, efficiency and productivity were analyzed using the DEA model and Malmquist productivity index, deriving improvement plans. For this, the values of technological efficiency, pure technology efficiency, scale efficiency and scale return were calculated, and TECI, TCI, PECI, SECI derived with the Malmquist productivity index. From the slaughterhouse status by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 19 systematized businesses slaughtering poultry were selected,, and classified into 15 broiler businesses and 4 duck businesses. The analysis was conducted using the audit report data on the 2020 fin an cial statemen ts in the electron ic disclosure system of the Fin an cial Supervisory Service. Results: BCC analysis of the DEA model showed 5 businesses were efficient. These 5 businesses showed the value of 1 in CRS, VRS and SE of the DEA model, an d were also efficien t in terms of scale return with CRS. The mean Malmquist index showed TECI increased in 2016/17 and 2019/20 while decreasing in other years. The mean SECI exceeded 1, which showed there had been advancement in scale from 2015 to 2020. For three years from 2015/16, TCI was higher than TECI, which is attributed to the influence of production technology change rather than improved business management efficiency. Implications: It will be possible to improve efficiency by quantifying and diagnosing the efficiency through static and dynamic efficiency analysis of systematized poultry businesses using DEA analysis and the Malmquist productivity index and to use it as the basic data to find the business efficiency of systematized poultry businesses.
