Conceptual framework illustrates bioelectric wave dynamics in forests, suggesting enhanced information transfer.
We propose the concept of a forest as a multi-scale bioelectric resonator. Bioelectric potentials of individual trees (100–200 mV, root-to-leaf) with a diurnal phase structure combine through the mycorrhizal network into a collective oscillator. The natural phase gradient of solar illumination on a mountain slope generates a travelling potential wave around the mountain perimeter with a 24-hour period — without any artificial infrastructure. We analyse: conditions for transition from travelling to standing wave; two mycorrhizal buses with different electrical characteristics (arbuscular and ectomycorrhizal); species impedance as a circuit element and resonator mirror; tree height as a second tuning parameter; lunar pumping as a second carrier frequency with beats. The concept of controlled information transfer through the mycorrhizal channel and of the forest as a computing medium is formulated. The connection to neural networks is considered as a structural analogy of one principle at different timescales.
