Hypothesis-generating for protective miR-221/-222 effects in viral myocarditis; prospective studies needed before clinical adoption.
Corsten et al. (2015) studied Viral myocarditis. Inhibition of miR-221/-222 was evaluated on Cardiac viral load, viraemic state, cardiac injury and inflammation. Systemic inhibition of miR-221/-222 in mice increased cardiac viral load, prolonged the viraemic state, and strongly aggravated cardiac injury and inflammation during acute viral myocarditis.
