Study isolates bacteria from plastic dump soil, highlighting potential for environmental cleanup.
There is abundance of plastic in the environment, which is dumped in the soil thus causing various threats toecosystem. There are various processes of degradation of plastic. However, biodegradation of plastic bymicroorganism seems to be the most effective one. Current study attempts to isolate and analyze thebiodegradation of synthetic polyethylene by different species of bacteria. Bacterial isolates from plastic dump soilof Ahmednagar college hostel were investigated. The bacterial isolates differing in morphology were selected; subcultured and maintained as pure culture. Bacterial species identification from the isolates were performedaccording to their morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics. Baccilus subtilis and Baccilusamylolyticus were found in degrading plastic.
