Abstract This paper presents a compilation of the accuracy and safety assessment of the simplified fire design calculation models for structural steel members included in the second generation of Eurocode 3, Part 1‐2 (EN 1993‐1‐2:2024). Based on extensive numerical studies, members with I‐shaped cross‐sections covering different cross‐section classes (Class 1 to Class 4) are analysed, considering: i) axial compression (columns susceptible to flexural buckling); ii) simple bending (beams susceptible to lateral‐torsional buckling); and iii) combined bending and compression (considering in‐plane and out‐of‐plane buckling).
