Randomized trial evaluates fungicides for managing Cercospora leaf spot in table beet, suggesting effective management strategies.
Cercospora leaf spot (CLS), caused by the fungus Cercospora beticola, is a devastating disease affecting table beet (Beta vulgaris ssp. vulgaris). CLS symptoms begin as small, circular to irregular lesions on leaves and petioles with grayish centers, that rapidly coalesce and lead to defoliation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of repeated application of selected fungicides registered for CLS control in table beet production in New York. Cevya provided superior control of CLS that reduced epidemic progress compared to Tilt and Miravis Prime. This information forms the basis for the design of practical management programs by incorporating rotation of fungicides with different modes of action.
