Case report reveals successful excision of traumatic pseudoaneurysm in a 93-year-old patient, indicating potential complications of untreated injury.
Background Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery (STA) is rare. Catastrophic complications may arise if undiagnosed. A high index of awareness is necessary to prevent complication and facilitate successful treatment. Method We report a 93‐year‐old patient presented with a pulsatile scalp mass preceded by a sharp injury 2 weeks ago. STA pseudoaneurysm was suspected clinically and confirmed on plain CT. It was successfully excised under local anaesthesia. Results The STA pseudoaneurysm was successfully excised under local anaesthesia. Operation lasted 45 min. Patient was discharged home the next day. There was no surgical complication or recurrence after a follow‐up of 6 months. Conclusion Albeit rare, STA pseudoaneurysm could be diagnosed early and properly treated.
