Key Points

  • This research identifies molecular chirality as the first measurable parameter for the transition from non-life to life.
  • Analyzed the role of chirality and energy flux in defining phases of life.
  • Examined supramolecular structures and heterochiral membranes as experimental anchors.
  • Molecular chirality acts as an order parameter in life's transition.
  • Identified three life phases based on energy flux: racemic, chiral non-life, and Φ-stable life.
  • Homochirality lowers the energy threshold for life.

Abstract

This work identifies molecular chirality (χ = (nD−nL) / (nD+nL) ) as the first measurable order parameter for the transition from non-life to life. Building on Φ-stable theory, χ undergoes a supercritical pitchfork bifurcation at critical energy flux J_χ, defining three phases: racemic chemistry (JJₗifeᶜrit). Homochirality lowers the energy threshold for life. Anchored in QT45 ribozyme, CISS assemblies, supramolecular structures, and heterochiral membranes. Five falsifiable predictions included.
