Cyclone Ditwah brought flooding and landslides to Sri Lanka, indicating a need for stronger multi-hazard warning systems.
Cyclone Ditwah (2025) made landfall in Sri Lanka as a tropical cyclone with only moderate intensity winds (~65–75kmh −1 ). Yet, its prolonged heavy rainfall also led to landslides and widespread flooding across Sri Lanka and the southern Indian states, with the combined effects of hazards causing impacts totalling 4.1 billion USD. Ditwah is, therefore, a reminder that strengthening end‐to‐end, impact‐based multi‐hazard warning systems, particularly integrating flooding and landslides, remains critical for reducing future cyclone‐related losses, not only in Sri Lanka and India, but across South Asia.
