To explore the impact of ostracism on parental burnout as well as the roles of parenting stress and perfectionism. In this research, the ostracism experience scale, the parental burnout assessment, the parenting stress index short form and the Hewitt multidimensional perfectionism scale were selected. A two-wave survey was conducted with a two-month interval among 312 mothers of children aged 1 to 18 years. (1) Ostracism positively predicted parental burnout; (2) Parenting Stress mediated the relationship between ostracism and parental burnout; (3) Perfectionism moderated the relationship between parenting stress and parental burnout. Specifically, under high perfectionism, parenting stress had a stronger predictive effect on parental burnout. Parenting stress mediates the ostracism–burnout relationship, and perfectionism strengthens the effect of parenting stress on burnout.
