Randomized trial shows improving metabolic health enhances musculoskeletal care outcomes.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are increasing in prevalence, with most individuals experiencing symptoms at some stage in life. These conditions present clinical challenges due to their multifactorial aetiology and propensity for chronicity, often leading to disability and productivity loss. This contributes to growing pressures on healthcare systems, particularly as the population ages, with the impact of metabolic health often overlooked. A holistic, patient-centred approach addressing MSK symptoms and metabolic factors may reduce recurrence and improve long-term outcomes. GPs may prevent, manage and improve MSK disorders, improving the quality of life of patients in primary care by implementing comprehensive management strategies.
