Demonstrates reduced myocardial ischaemia in neonates during aortic arch repair, suggesting improved outcomes.
Aortic arch repair in neonates with transposition of the great arteries is associated with prolonged myocardial ischaemia during a single-stage arterial switch and arch repair. Using the myocardial and cerebral perfusion technique described herein, the heart can remain beating in sinus rhythm during the aortic arch repair, reducing the duration of cardioplegic heart arrest and myocardial ischaemia.
