Key result
En bloc surgical excision effectively removes posterior left ventricular cardiac hydatid cysts.
Why the study?
Cardiac involvement in hydatid disease is rare and surgical resection is indicated due to risk of life-threatening complications.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report provides a surgical video tutorial demonstrating the successful en bloc excision of a left ventricular hydatid cyst.
Offers technical guidance for rare posterior LV hydatid cysts; leaves open standardization and long-term outcome data.
Cardiac involvement in hydatid disease is rare and accounts for only a small proportion of all hydatid cyst cases. Owing to the risk of life-threatening complications, including compression of cardiac chambers, cyst rupture and anaphylactic shock, surgical resection is indicated. This case report describes the surgical management of a male patient with an incidentally detected cardiac hydatid cyst located on the posterior wall of the left ventricle. The cyst was completely excised en bloc through a left ventriculotomy. This video tutorial highlights the surgical techniques and technical considerations essential for the safe and effective en bloc resection of cardiac hydatid cysts.

Ak et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Cardiac hydatid cyst (n=1). En bloc excision through a left ventriculotomy was evaluated. En bloc excision of a cardiac hydatid cyst on the posterior wall of the left ventricle was effectively performed in a male patient.
