Randomized trial demonstrates improved basic tennis skills and accuracy in junior players, suggesting effective training methods.
This study aims to determine the effects of open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation on tennis playing skills, the effects of open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation on stroke accuracy, and the effects of open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation on basic tennis playing skills and stroke accuracy for junior tennis players aged 10-18 years throughout the Province of DIY. This study employed a one-group pretest–posttest experimental design using test and measurement techniques. The population in this study was junior tennis players in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research sample consisted of junior tennis players aged 10-18 years using purposive sampling. The research instrument to measure basic technical skills used the forehand and backhand groundstroke tennis test from the Ministry of Youth and Sports' Student Development and Training Programme (PPLP). The basic technique accuracy test used International Tennis Number 5 from the International Tennis Federation. Research data analysis was conducted using the paired-sample t-test statistical analysis. The results indicated that the training intervention significantly improved basic tennis stroke skills and stroke accuracy: 1) The calculated t-value (t = 26.988) exceeded the critical t-value (t0.05,44 = 2.01), therefore the null hypothesis was rejected, indicating a significant effect of the intervention, 2) there is a significant effect of open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation on the accuracy of basic tennis playing techniques because t hit = 19.038 > t (0.05) (44) = 2.01, so Ho is accepted, and 3) there is a significant effect of open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation on basic tennis stroke skills and accuracy because t hit = 22.232 > t (0.05) (44) = 2.01, so Ho is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that open skill training based on the acentos method and match play simulation can be used as training to improve the skills and accuracy of basic tennis strokes for junior tennis players aged 10-18 years throughout the Province of DIY.
