A fluorine-functionalized imide-linked covalent organic framework, NMUCOF-1, was synthesized via straightforward melt polymerization for selective SF6 capture. The resulting NMUCOF-1 features high stability and a large surface area (991 m2·g–1) and exhibits an SF6 uptake of 1.75 mmol·g–1 with a high SF6/N2 selectivity of 41 (273 K). Dynamic breakthrough experiments confirm efficient and reversible SF6 capture from SF6/N2 mixtures. Molecular simulations reveal the high SF6 affinity stems from synergistic interactions. This work validates melt polymerization for constructing fluorinated COFs and presents a benchmark adsorbent for SF6 mitigation.
