After methadone overdosage, toxic effects may persist for 24 hours. Therapeutic levels of naloxone hydrochloride are more evanescent after single injection. Accordingly, slow, constant infusion of the drug would seem the preferred treatment of methadone overdose. A case is reported in which that method was used successfully.
