Evaluates speech intelligibility prediction in CI-users, suggesting new assessment methods.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the possibility of using behavioral thresholds and auditory steady-state responses in a free field in pediatric CI-users as predictors of speech intelligibility. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 170 CI-users with reliable behavioral feedback aged 6 to 17 years were included in the study. The assessment of behavioral thresholds and speech intelligibility was carried out in a free field. An objective assessment of sound perception was carried out in a free field by Auditory Steady State Responses (ASSR). A correlation analysis was performed between the indicators of speech intelligibility and the values of behavioral thresholds and ASSR. CONCLUSION: The ability to accurately predict speech intelligibility based on auditory steady-state responses (ASSR) is a useful option for determination of the parameters of electrical stimulation in CI-users.
