Shows positive outcomes in educators' confidence and engagement with citizen science, suggesting effective teaching integration.
In this deliverable we present the CROPS MOOC – From Classroom to Impact: Addressing Societal Challenges with Citizen Science, developed under Work Package 6 of the Horizon Europe CROPS project and delivered through the European Schoolnet® Academy with the support of Scientix®. The course aimed to empower educators to integrate citizen science into their teaching practice while connecting classroom learning to the five EU Missions. The MOOC, delivered from 13 October to 19 November 2025, attracted 508 educators, reaching indirectly more than 6,100 students. The course had a 54% completion rate. In this document we outline the design and delivery of the MOOC, including its preparation, launch, and live components; the dissemination and communication activities supporting its uptake; the characteristics and engagement of participants; and the feedback collected through pre- and post-course evaluation. We also synthesise the overall outcomes, present the CROPS Learning Scenarios and provide the full course content as an Annex. Evaluation findings indicate a strong positive impact on participants. 96% rated the course as “Good” or “Very good,” and 97% reported increased confidence in involving their students in citizen science projects. Qualitative feedback highlights the practical relevance, immediate applicability, and overall usefulness of the course materials. Overall, the CROPS MOOC achieved its objectives and strengthened educators’ capacity to involve students in citizen science activities, thereby contributing to the wider CROPS ambition of supporting the uptake and impact of citizen science across Europe. The complete text and materials developed for the MOOC, were released under a CC-BY licence. This open licence enables anyone to reuse, adapt, and build upon the content. Making the material openly accessible enhances the long-term sustainability of the course and supports wider uptake and reuse across education and citizen science. All course materials and resources will remain available on the European Schoolnet Academy platform, although participants can no longer receive certification.
