Review highlights oxidative transformations for creating quinolines and lactones from N-aryl glycine esters, suggesting new synthetic routes.
In recent years, oxidative dehydrogenative transformations such as cross‐dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) and double oxidative dehydrogenative coupling (DOD) or cyclization reactions have emerged as powerful and sustainable methods for the construction of quinolines and quinoline‐fused lactones and lactams from N ‐aryl glycine derivatives. N ‐aryl glycine esters, owing to their dual reactivity, have proven especially versatile in these annulation processes, enabling efficient C─C and C─N bond formation without the need for prefunctionalized substrates. This review highlights recent progress in oxidative methodologies, with an emphasis on mechanistic aspects, catalytic systems, and synthetic applications leading to quinolines and quinoline‐fused lactones/lactams.
