This randomized trial investigates brand performance in AI systems, revealing insights into recommendation outcomes and survival rates.
The emergence of AI systems as purchase advisors has created a structural gap in brand performance measurement. Existing paradigms — Search Engine Optimisation, Generative Engine Optimisation, and Answer Engine Optimisation — share a common measurement locus: brand visibility, defined as the rate at which a brand appears in AI-generated outputs. This paper argues that visibility is a necessary but insufficient condition for AI-era brand performance. The functionally relevant outcome is not appearance but survival: whether a brand survives the sequential reasoning filters applied by AI agents through to a final purchase recommendation. We introduce Agentic Brand Control (ABC) as the category that addresses this gap. ABC is defined as the structured capacity of a brand to influence its recommendation outcomes within AI-mediated purchase sequences — distinct from, and complementary to, the capacity to achieve visibility in AI-generated content. The paper documents the empirical basis through the AIVO Paradox — the observation that brands demonstrating strong AI visibility metrics routinely achieve zero or near-zero recommendation rates at the final purchase turn — establishes the measurement framework through the Conversational Survival Rate (CSR) measurement protocol, and introduces AIVO Meridian as the first purpose-built infrastructure for Agentic Brand Control at portfolio scale
