Using theLCAO‐MO theory in its usual approximation, it is shown that the spectroscopic, polarographic and chemical evidence concerning the azulenealdehyde lactaroviolin is only compatible with structure III. The correlation between the carbonyl stretching magnified image frequency ṽ CO and the characteristic half‐wave potential E of aromatic aldehydes is discussed.
