Randomized trial evaluated archaeological features in London, indicating negligible impact from development.
The programme of works comprised the excavation of two trenches, 15m x 1.8m, excavated to a depth of around 1.6m using a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless bucket. Non-archaeological layers were removed in spits of 100mm until the archaeological or geological horizon was reached. No archaeologically significant features or deposits were uncovered during these works, suggesting that the proposed development will have a negligible impact upon the archaeological resource in the area.
