Experimental study measures thermophysical properties in a binary mixture, revealing trends with temperature and composition.
The present study aims to measure the thermophysical properties of the N, N-dimethyl formamide + 2-ethoxyethanol binary mixture. The thermophysical properties of pure materials were first measured at different temperatures, ranging from 283.15 K to 353.15 K, and then compared with available literature data. In sequence, the density, viscosity, and refractive index of the mixture were measured at temperatures ranging from 283.15 K to 353.15 K at the atmospheric pressure of 83.09 kPa. All of these properties decrease with an increase in temperature. Both density and refractive index increase as the mole fraction of dimethyl formamide increases. In contrast, the viscosity decreased with an increase in the mole fraction of dimethyl formamide. Polynomial equations were used to describe the density and refractive index of the binary solution. In sequence, excess molar volume ( V m E x ), viscosity deviation ( Δ η ), and refractive index deviation ( Δ n D ) were fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation.
