Abstract Nanometer sized cadmium sulfide particles were prepared in N,N‐dimethylformamide, using thiourea as the sulfurizing agent and thioglycerine as stabilizer. For particles with diameters of less than 40 Å the size dependent solubility was utilized to separate the particles according to their size. The absorption spectra of the size separated samples exhibit well pronounced excitonic absorption bands indicating a very narrow size distribution.
