Hemodialysis is associated with prolonged global native T1 on CMR, correlating with iPTH and triglycerides.
Why the study?
The use of CMRI in patients on hemodialysis remains limited, prompting investigation into native T1 values and their related factors in this population.

Native T1 mapping on CMRI reveals prolonged global T1 values in hemodialysis patients, suggesting its utility as a surrogate marker for myocardial fibrosis in this population.
Hypothesis-generating for native T1 as fibrosis marker in hemodialysis; cross-sectional data leave open clinical adoption pending validation.
PURPOSE: Increased myocardial T1 values on cardiovascular MRI (CMRI) have been shown to be a surrogate marker for myocardial fibrosis. The use of CMRI in patients on hemodialysis (HD) remains limited. This research aimed to explore the characteristics of native T1 values in HD patients and identify factors related to T1 values. METHODS: A total of thirty-two patients on HD and fourteen healthy controls were included in this study. All participants underwent CMRI. Using modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) sequence, native T1 mapping was achieved. Native CMRI T1 values were compared between the two groups. In order to analyze the relationship between T1 values and clinical parameters, correlation analysis was performed in patients on HD. RESULTS: = 0.010). CONCLUSION: The global native T1 value was prolonged in HD patients compared with controls. In the HD group, the global T1 value correlated strongly with iPTH, triglycerides, and cardiac structural and functional parameters.

Zhang et al. (2024) conducted an observational in Maintenance hemodialysis (n=46). Cardiovascular magnetic resonance native T1 mapping vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on Global native T1 value (p=0.010). Global native T1 values on cardiovascular MRI were prolonged in hemodialysis patients compared with healthy controls (P=0.010) and correlated with iPTH, triglycerides, and cardiac parameters.
