We present a model for shot noise in tunnel junctions, which is derived from the microscopic theory and fully contains quantum effects. In a simple limit of weak dissipation we can work out several experimentally observable quantities without any further approximation. We compare our results with those obtained from Gaussian-noise models, and with those derived from Langevin descriptions generalized to account for shot noise.
