It emphasizes cultural analysis and interpretation of the researcher's behaviors, thoughts, and experiences in relation to others in society – it connects "the personal to the cultural" (Ellis and Bochner Citation2000, 739). Structural intersectionality centers the operation of systems and structures in society that result in the marginalization of individuals – in terms of their social needs and legal status. Political intersectionality reflects the different (and sometimes conflicting) political agendas of the various groups to which an individual may belong or to which they "define" their identity. Representational intersectionality addresses the depiction, through text, language, images, media, of groups and individuals in society. It also captures how these groups work to create their own narratives that shape and inform multiple aspects of society.
