Experimental study demonstrates underwater acoustic energy transmission reaching 3% power conversion efficiency, highlighting the influence of transducer dimensions and spacing.
In this study, a 3D model was developed to examine the acoustic field and distribution of electric potential during the energy transmission process from two ultrasonic piezoelectric transducers underwater. The influence of the piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer's dimension on energy transmission is examined and compared using COMSOL Multiphysics. A test platform is used to confirm the practicality of transmitting energy through acoustic waves in an underwater channel. Finite element simulation and experimental results reveal that the power conversion efficiency (PCE) depends on the size of the ultrasonic transducers, the spacing between two ultrasonic transducers, and various other parameters. The transmitter and receiver of the transducer are arranged using Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT-5A). Experimental measurements indicate that the power conversion efficiency can reach approximately 3% at various distances.
