This strategy emphasizes the use of non-opioid medications, including NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and adjuvant analgesics such as gabapentin and pregabalin, particularly for managing neuropathic pain. The emerging field of pharmacogenomics enhances personalized pain management, tailoring treatments to individual patient responses to minimize adverse effects and optimize drug efficacy. Additionally, medical device therapies like intrathecal drug delivery systems, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and spinal cord stimulation (SCS) are gaining traction. These methods offer non-invasive options to reduce pain severity and opioid use, thus improving patient quality of life. Engineered exosomes carrying different drugs and inhibitors can also be administered in the tissue experiencing the pain and alleviate it.
