Review highlights how personalized medicine impacts drug development, enhancing efficacy and safety through tailored approaches.
Pharmaceutical design is rapidly evolving with the emergence of personalized medicine, which tailors treatments to individual patient characteristics, such as genetics, biomarkers, lifestyle, and environment. This shift from a “one-size-fits-all” approach enhances drug efficacy and minimizes adverse effects. This review highlights how omics technologies (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and pharmacogenomics are driving personalized drug development. Advanced drug delivery systems, like nanocarriers, liposomes, and 3D-printed dosage forms, enable targeted, controlled, and patient-specific therapies. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) further enhance drug discovery and patient stratification. Successful examples, such as trastuzumab and pembrolizumab, demonstrate the clinical value of personalized medicine. Despite regulatory, ethical, and access-related challenges, the integration of patient-specific data and emerging technologies marks a transformative step toward safer, more effective healthcare.
