Abstract Background: Mobile phones, integral to global technoculture, have given rise to NOMOPHOBIA, the fear of detachment from mobile phone. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess effects of a 15-day intervention on undergraduate students with “severe” nomophobia and “poor” sleep quality scores in Sundernagar Town, Himachal Pradesh, India. Materials and Methods: Data collection used prevalidated, preested, and self-administered questionnaires (Nomophobia Questionnaire NMP-Q, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index PSQI) in two phases. The intervention targeted those scoring ≥100 in NMP-Q and ≥5 in global PSQI, with an equal-sized control group. The intervention group received a 17-item daily booklet for 15 days. On the 16 th day, both groups completed Google forms, and SPSS version 24.0 analysed the data, using the student’s paired t -test and multiple linear regression ( P ≤ 0.05). Results: Among 206 eligible students (55.8% males, 30.1% aged 17–19), 37.6% exhibited “severe” nomophobia, with 73.8% reporting poor sleep quality. Sleep difficulty and severe nomophobia were significantly associated ( P = 0.02). Postintervention, NMP-Q and sleep quality scores decreased in the intervention group but slightly increased in the control group. Conclusion: The study emphasises the impact of nomophobia on sleep quality, urging management through reduced smartphone dependence and adoption of healthier behaviors, advocating for a balanced digital and real-world engagement approach.
