Matching HM3 device settings to patient hemodynamics optimizes circulatory support in chronic heart failure.
Why the study?
Unresolved issues remain regarding selection criteria and postoperative follow-up in patients receiving the HeartMate3 centrifugal circulatory assist system.
What are the hemodynamic features and assessment peculiarities in patients with the HeartMate3 centrifugal circulatory assist system?
What are the hemodynamic features and assessment peculiarities in patients with the HeartMate3 centrifugal circulatory assist system?
This review highlights the importance of adequate hemodynamic assessment and device setting optimization in patients with HeartMate3 LVADs, while noting the need for updated monitoring protocols.
Tailored hemodynamic assessment may optimize HeartMate3 support in chronic HF; leaves open prospective validation of monitoring protocols.
Chronic heart failure (CHF) is one of the leading causes of increased mortality. The same is true for the Russian Federation. Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation technique is used worldwide and becoming more common, especially in context of higher prevalence of CHF and shortage of donor organs. The most modern device for long-term mechanical circulatory support (MPC) is the HeartMate3. This review is intended to highlight the hemodynamic features associated with implantation of the HeartMate3 system. Adequate assessment of relationship between device settings and own hemodynamics can provide necessary hemodynamic support for each patient with LVAD devices. However, there are still some unresolved issues regarding selection criteria and postoperative follow-up. Additional studies are required to modify the protocols for monitoring of patients with HeartMate3 devices.
