The paper presents a theoretical consideration of the problem of minimizing adjacent-channel interference in pulse communication. Curves of an optimum pulse-shape are given, and they depend only on the product of pulse length and bandwidth. The method is also applied to the problem of maximizing the amount of energy available for detection in a receiver by variation of the pulse shape. Results are obtained for a few types of receiver pass-band.The analysis applies both to d.c. and r.f. pulses.
