The energy density functional (EDF) theory has been applied to the study of the influence of the velocity-dependent terms of the Skyrme EDF on the height and position of the Coulomb barrier in the fusion reactions ^40Ca+^36{-62} Ca. The nucleus–nucleus interaction potentials were calculated within the double-folding formalism. It is shown that the enhancement of the velocity-dependent terms significantly improves the description of the Coulomb barrier in the studied reactions. A linear correlation between the height and position of the barrier has been examined. The influence of shell effects on the properties of the Coulomb barrier in the reactions ^40Ca+^36{-62} Ca is revealed.
