E become a critical issue in medical practice, and it is particularly important in the management of cancer patients where we are almost always dealing with life-threatening illness. The Patterns of Care Study is an attempt, within the specialty of radiation oncology, to undertake a comprehensive nationwide study of the "Patterns of Cancer Care in Radiation Therapy." Its objective is to improve the quality and accessibility of radiation care in the United States. To this end the study seeks to establish how and by whom radiation therapy is being practiced in the United States and to evaluate the factors which affect the level of care presently being delivered.
