Survey uncovers evidence gaps in surgical practices among endocrine surgeons, indicating areas for improvement.
Background As endocrine surgery evolves, new evidence and treatment methods emerge continuously. Fostering evidence-based decision-making among endocrine surgeons is essential to identify evidence maps ad gaps, challenge traditional practices, and stimulate research and innovation. In this context, the Evidence Gap Club was established as an initiative to systematically explore the alignment between routine surgical practice and the available scientific evidence. Methods An online questionnaire will be distributed via email to members of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES), including both open- and closed-ended questions, exploring specific routine surgical practices and their perceived evidence basis, strength of evidence as reported in existing national and international clinical practice guidelines. Collected data will be analysed to map areas of concordance and discrepancy between practice and evidence. Expected outcomes The survey is expected to identify areas supported by strong evidence, and areas where evidence is weak or lacking. Conclusion The Evidence Gap Club aims to cultivate a culture of critical inquiry, continuous learning, and innovation among endocrine surgeons, enhancing adherence to evidence-based practice while promoting adaptive and reflective surgical decision-making.
