The development of pharmacists as researchers is critical for advancing patient care and driving sustainable healthcare innovation. In Hong Kong, pharmacy education is focused on training highly competent clinical pharmacists with foundational skills in research. However, a structured pathway for integrating research into mainstream practice and professional identity remains underdeveloped. This commentary reviews the current state of pharmacy education, career pathways, and practice models in Hong Kong, with a specific focus on the cultivation of clinician-researchers. To foster a culture of inquiry, recommendations for the next decade are explored. These focus on curriculum reform, establishment of integrated career pathways, and development of support systems to empower pharmacists to embrace research as a core professional responsibility.
