: Image processing is an important area in electronics, computer science, artificial intelligence, medical science, and communication engineering. It is used to improve image quality, remove noise, extract useful information, and help machines understand images. Today image processing is used in medical diagnosis, satellite imaging, security systems, agriculture, robotics, and industrial automation. This review paper explains the basic concepts of image processing and discusses important techniques such as image enhancement, image restoration, image segmentation, image compression, feature extraction, and object recognition. The paper also explains applications, advantages, challenges, and recent developments in image processing including deep learning, Edge AI, quantum image processing, and AIoT systems.
