Overview discusses how display light affects health and comfort, suggesting strategies for mitigation.
Title: Display Light Characteristics and Health: An Overview Authors: Peter Veto, Liliana Lettieri, Todd Bouman (Pixun Technologies Co.) Abstract: Narrowband display light emission is increasingly used to achieve wide color gamuts, high contrast, and improved energy efficiency. However, it also has adverse consequences for health, comfort, and visual development. This overview summarizes physiological and visual mechanisms influenced by spectral and temporal display characteristics, including circadian modulation, metabolic balance, color adaptation, accommodative load, and eye movement planning. Potential mitigation strategies and their trade-offs with efficiency are briefly discussed.
