This study aims to determine the students’ of critical thinking ability on hydrocarbon compounds concept. Critical thinking ability is important for the education. In this case, to deal any problems people needs a high-level thinking, such as analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, drawing a conclusion and reflect thinking that focuses on deciding what to believe or do. This higher level thinking consists of critical thinking ability. This research used a descriptive method with 66 students of eleventh grade from senior high schools in Sragen as subjects that chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used a question were developed based on the indicators of critical thinking ability by Facione such as analysis, inference, interpretation, self-regulation, explanation, and evaluation. The average of students correct answer is 61,54%. Based on the result of research, it can be concluded that the critical thinking ability students to eleventh grade in Sragen it categorized into “medium”.
