Digital transformation has been included in the economic agenda of the European Commission (EC) during its leadership of J.-C. Juncker in 2014-2019. In many ways, it was a response to the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Its start at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century was announced by a representative of the scientific and business community of Germany. The next Commission continued the implementation of digitalization, consistently filling its processes with new content. The head of the EC, U. von der Leyen, announced in 2020 the beginning of a digital decade in the development of the European Union. The article examines the features of the digital transition of the European economic space, analyzes its components and evaluates the prospects for achieving its goals.
