miR-26b deficiency increases aortic atherosclerotic lesion size ~2.8-fold in mice.
Why the study?
Do miR-26b mimic-loaded lipid nanoparticles reduce atherogenesis in preclinical models of atherosclerosis?
Do miR-26b mimic-loaded lipid nanoparticles reduce atherogenesis in preclinical models of atherosclerosis?
Effect estimate: 2.8-fold increase
miR-26b plays an atheroprotective role by attenuating lesion formation, and miR-26b mimic-loaded LNPs demonstrate therapeutic potential for treating atherosclerosis.

Peters et al. (2025) studied Atherosclerosis. miR-26b deficiency and miR-26b mimic-loaded LNPs vs. Control Apoe-/- mice was evaluated on Atherosclerotic lesion size in the aortic arch (2.8-fold increase). Apoe-/-Mir26b-/- mice exhibited a 2.8-fold increase in atherosclerotic lesion size in the aortic arch compared to controls, demonstrating an atheroprotective role of miR-26b.
