Shows ferromagnetic interactions in NiII–MIV–NiII complexes, indicating potential applications in magnetic materials.
Two NiII–MIV–NiII trimeric complexes (M = Mn, Fe) have been synthesized employing oxamato-functionalized MIV clathrochelates derived from an oxalyldihydrazide precursor. The two isostructural NiII–MnIV–NiII and NiII–FeIV–NiII complexes have been structurally characterized. Magnetic measurements reveal ferromagnetic interactions between the octahedral NiII cations and the distorted trigonal prismatic MIV paramagnetic centers, which have been analyzed by means of CASSCF/NEVPT2 theoretical calculations.
